CONFERENCE ON COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT

Croatia, February 2009

Atlantic Grupa and their Education Centre Farmacia recently hosted a conference on Competence Development in Pharmacy, together with the Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists, Croatian Pharmaceutical Society and the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Faculty.

Almost 400 delegates attended on 2 February 2009 to hear the President of the Management Board, Emil Tedeschi, commend the efforts made by the pharmaceutical profession in investing in new knowledge and skills.

Professor Ian Bates, Director of the Pharmacy Education Taskforce of the World Health Organisation, and founding member of CoDEG, presented the possibilities of professional training which increase competence in line with legislation and affect the professional development and career of any health care professional.

Dr Catherine Duggan, Chair of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association, emphasised the importance of mutual collaboration of different sectors and organisations within health care services, as well as ideas and visions in the field of pharmacy competence development.

Maja Jakševac-Mikša, from the Croatian Pharmaceutical Society, contributed to the insights into the impact of continuous education on the development of practitioner competencies. The Head of the Education Centre Farmacia, Arijana Meštrović, closed the conference by speaking of the opportunities for education and competence development of pharmacists in a modern company.

Inspired by these presentations, delegates of the conference engaged in lively discussions on the methods in which the growth of competence in the pharmacy segment may be achieved.
